Privacy Statement for http://financialaid.tamu.edu

Texas A&M University Department of Student Financial Aid has created this privacy statement in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to privacy. The following discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for this website: http://financialaid.tamu.edu.

Personal information that you provide via e-mail or through other online means will be used only for purposes necessary to serve your needs, such as responding to an inquiry or other request for information. This may involve redirecting your inquiry or comment to another person or department better suited to meeting your needs.

We sometimes acquire, record and analyze portions of the data that is entered into, stored on, and/or transmitted through this site by you. This information is only released -- when legally required -- to help law enforcement investigations, legal proceedings or internal investigations of TAMU rule and regulation violations. These groups would use the information to track the electronic interactions back to the source computer(s) or account(s).

We log IP addresses for systems administration purposes and to track a user's session. This gives us an idea of which parts of our site users are visiting.

Our site also uses cookies to keep track of your session when logged into our Jobs for Aggies student employment system.  The main purpose for this action is to ensure that no one else has access to your personal profile information.  If there is no computer activity within a predefined amout of time, the user is logged off of the Jobs for Aggies system, rendering their personal information inaccessible. We do not use cookies to collect any information.

Our site's Jobs for Aggies personal profile form requires users (both students and employers) to give us contact information (like their name and email address) and unique identifiers (like their student ID/social security number). Unique identifiers (such as student IDs) are collected to verify a student's identity and for use as account numbers in our record system. We use student/employer contact information from the profile form to contact the user when necessary. Student contact information is made available to the employers that utilize Jobs for Aggies as long as the student has given prior permission on their profile form. Employer contact information is made available to students as well, and the employer can specify the format in which they would wish to be contacted—phone, email or by posting a message on Jobs for Aggies.

This site contains links to other sites that offer loan briefing services free of charge to the user.  Rather than attending a required loan briefing in person, students can perform a loan briefing at one of these sites.  Once the briefing is completed, users (students) are required to provide contact information (like their name and email address) and unique identifiers (like their social security number) to the loan briefing provider. Unique identifiers (such as social security numbers) are collected to verify a student's identity.  Contact data is transmitted to us either through email or by downloading from the provider site. We use student contact information from the loan briefing provider to contact the user when necessary.

Our occassional online surveys ask visitors for contact information (like their email address). We use contact data from our surveys to send the user information about our Department and the free services we offer. This contact information is also used to contact the visitor when necessary.  Survey data is subsequently used to aid in modifying our departmental policies from year to year. Any published data is in the aggregate with no reference to or identification of individual student records.

We occassionally run contests on our site in which we ask visitors for contact information (like their email address). We use this contact data to notify contest winners. This information is also used to contact the visitor when necessary.
